From one State Street post to another. This spring I encountered an Obama stimulus "campaign sign" on the median of Chicago's State Street just south of Van Buren. I don't know if this is the same sign--only moved onto the sidewalk 100 yards to the south--but I'm going to assume it's a new one.
Although it's not the retail dynamo it was several decades ago, State Street is still an important commercial Chicago thoroughfare. Which reminds me of a story. When he was running for president, Barack Obama, mocked President Bush for telling Americans after 9/11 to "go out and shop." He didn't exactly say that--and Bush's shopping reference was made to assuage citizens' fears; he also wanted to make sure our economy continued to function.
Well, the economy is barely functioning now. And Bush's successor knows nothing about economics.
Oh, by the way, Obama-bots, spare me the "It's Bush's fault" whine about the economy. Your guy has been president for almost three years.
And my friends, I have this to say: "Go out and shop."
