At least 42 wounded and 5 dead over weekend in Chicago, nine shot in mass shooting

Chicago's new mayor, Brandon Johnson, needs to hurry up and get his "holistic" approach to crime fighting in place. Because over the past weekend, at least 42 people were shot and five people were killed in the city over the past weekend.

The worst of the violence happened shortly after midnight on Sunday when nine people were wounded in a mass shooting in North Lawndale on the West Side. One of the nine died of here wounds, 21-year-old Kanesha Gaines.

Her family, sadly, is no stranger to violence. Her brother was murdered in 2019.

Sinéad O'Connor & Van Morrison sing "Have I Told You Lately?"

Of course, you know that Sinéad O'Connor passed away this week at the age of 56.

She had a lot of demons, which led her to attempt suicide in Morton Grove, Illinois a few years ago, the town where I live.

Here she is in 1995 on David Letterman's Late Night with Van Morrison, singing his love song, "Have I Told You Lately."

O'Connor is quite good here, Van, and it pains me to say this, was off his game. He appears to be cueing someone--badly. The backup band is Irish folk giants the Chieftains.

Regular Marathon Pundit readers know that "Have I Told You Lately" is on my wedding video.

‘The Five’: Biden finally acknowledges 7th grandchild

An old fashioned "Friday news dump" occurred yesterday.

Joe Biden, in a statement, admitted that he has seven, not six, grandchildren.

The seventh, which Senile Joe hasn't met yet, is the love child his reprobate son, Hunter, fathered with a stripper.

Friday news dumps don't work anymore. People no longer only get their news from broadcast networks or print newspapers. That's more proof the Democrats are out of touch with the public.

Six dead and at least 27 wounded in weekend violence in Chicago, one mass shooting

Chicago has a new mayor but an old problem, people continue to shoot each other. Over this past weekend six people were shot to death and at least 27 others were wounded.

And there was one mass shooting--early Saturday five men were wounded, but none fatally, in North Lawndale on the West Side.

Things will soon get worse in Chicago and the rest of Illinois. The absurdly named SAFE-T Act, which eliminates cash bail statewide wide, will take effect in two months.

Jason Aldean - Try That In A Small Town (Official Music Video)

You've already heard about the leftist fit over this fabulous Jason Aldean song and video, "Try That in a Small Town." Here's something else to ponder. "'Round here, we take care of our own," is a particularly strong lyric.

The liberals swooned over fellow leftist, Bruce Springsteen, who recorded "We Take Care of our Own" 11 years ago for his Wrecking Ball album. In fact, the Obama/Biden campaign used it for a theme song that year.

In small towns, folks really do take care of their own.

To download this song, type "Try That in a Small Town" and "Jason Aldean" in the search box after clicking on the below Amazon banner ad.

Mark Dice: COUNTRY MUSIC SONG BANNED! Media freakout over lyrics about Democrat-run cities

CMT, that is Country Music Television, banned Jason Aldean's "Try That in a Small Town," a song that is anti-crime and pro-law enforcement. It offers a dare to urban thugs, as you can tell by the title.

Of course, the liberal media has deemed the song "racist."

Mark Dice has more.

I'd boycott CMT, but I don't believe I've ever tuned into it.

Mark Dice: Disney ruins ANOTHER classic film with woke affirmative action race-swap...

Disney's Snow White remake isn't called Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs because the multi-racial group of seven includes only one dwarf. Snow White, as described in the Grimm Brothers story has "skin as white as snow." The actress portraying Snow White in the woke Disney remake is Hispanic.

Hey Disney, why not--here's a bold idea--produce an original story for once. Or find another Grimm Brothers tale to base a film on. There are over 150 of them to choose from.

Disney's woke remake of The Little Mermaid was similarly multi-racial and it starred Halle Bailey as Ariel. At best it will break even at the box office.

No one is asking for a Caucasian re-do of The Lion King. Now that was a great movie.

3 killed, at least 34 wounded, one mass shooting in Chicago over weekend

Chicago is down to three finalists to be Chicago's next police chief. And as newly-sworn-in Mayor Brandon Johnson is promising a "holistic" approach to the city's plague of violence, I expect the situation to remain the same--or get even worse.

Over the past weekend, three people were shot to death early Sunday morning in Chicago--and at least 34 others wounded. One of the fatalities, a 40-year-old woman, was killed in a mass shooting in West Garfield Park on the West Side.

Of the other deadly shootings, around the same time as the mass shooting, a man was killed in Humboldt Park on the Northwest Side. And on Saturday evening, a man was fatally wounded in Gage Park on the Southwest Side.

Roxy Music - Virginia Plain - Top Of The Pops - 24th August 1972

During discussions about the greatest 1970s rock acts, one band, at least in the United States, never seems to be part of that talk: Roxy Music.

Early on, as you'll see in the video of their 1972 performance of "Virginia Plain," they seemed to be a glam-rock act. Note lead singer Bryan Ferry's clothing and eye shadow. But Roxy had progressive rock tendencies. By the end of their dazzling recording run in the early 1980s, Roxy Music transformed their sound into baroque pop.

Ferry later dropped his glitter duds for a tuxedo, and he cut his hair to a short look, well, short for the early '70s.

Roxy was a major influence to many new wave rock bands, including Talking Heads, Duran Duran, and Depeche Mode. Roxy Music's first keyboardist, Brian Eno, produced Talking Heads' artistic breakthrough, Remain in Light.

Sometimes I think word salads like this one come from parody sites. But here's the video.

The Kinks - Supersonic Rocket Ship (Official HD Video)

Who's down for another Kinks song?

Have I posted too many lately?

But the Kinks are of course celebrating their 60th anniversary this year. Here's a new video that was released just two days ago, "Supersonic Rocket Ship."

Despite of the science fiction nature of the tune, Ray Davies manages to get a social message in.
On my supersonic rocket ship, nobody has to be hip
Nobody needs to be out of sight (Oh, out of sight, man, far out)
Nobody's gonna travel second class
There'll be equality
And no suppression of minorities.
