In response to IL state worker strike threats, guv opens up jobs site for temps

I love this idea.

After all, one of the governor's campaign slogan  was "Shake Up Springfield."

From the State Journal-Register:
Gov. Bruce Rauner's office on Tuesday launched a new website allowing people to put their name in for temporary state positions that would become available in the event AFSCME goes on strike.

A union spokesman said Rauner's effort to find replacement workers "is a recipe for disaster."

The website, statejobs.illinois.gov, is basic. It asks for contact information, a preference for what counties a person wants to work in and what job category they'd be interested in filling. It also asks if applicants are interested in temporary work, permanent jobs or both. People who want to apply for specific state jobs should continue to use the existing job application process, which includes listings at work.illinois.gov.

"We genuinely hope AFSCME leadership will choose not to strike against taxpayers," Rauner's General Counsel Dennis Murashko said in a statement issued Tuesday morning. "... However, we must be prepared to continue government operations and provide services that citizens deserve and expect."

Oscars' "Gary from Chicago" is a registered sex offender

Abandoned home in
South Shore
"Gary from Chicago," the affable man who was among group of tourist good-naturedly hijacked by host Jimmy Kimmel into the Dolby Theater during the Academy Awards broadcast, is Chicago's latest embarrassment and another blemish for the Oscars.

From the Daily Mail:
Gary Alan Coe and his fiancee Vickie Vines were part of the group of tourists Jimmy Kimmel invited inside the Dolby Theater during the ceremony Sunday night, gaining instant celebrity.

The pair made an impression as they calmly snapped photos of the celebrities sitting just inches from them, revealed they were engaged and even got fake-married by Denzel Washington.

Gary, a native of the South Shore of Chicago, was only able to attend the ceremony because he had been released three days beforehand, he told ABC7.

DailyMail.com can disclose that one of those felonies is attempted rape, for which Coe, 59, is a registered sex offender. He was jailed in October 1994, public records show.

Chiraq: 4 dead and at least 10 wounded over weekend

With the four murders over the weekend Chicago has passed 100 killings for the year.

Two people were shot to death early Saturday morning in Woodlawn on the South Side when a thug opened fire at a crowd inside a house where a party was taking place. On the Southeast Side a man was killed in a drive-by, and in North Lawndale on the West Side a man sitting in a parked minivan--that's a common sight in neighborhoods where drug sales are common, by the way--was gunned down fatally.

There were ten people wounded in other shootings this past weekend.

Hollywood phonies botch Oscars Best Picture award

Leftist Hollywood intellectual lightweights try to tell us what to think--but they cannot even manage an awards show properly.

From ABC Chicago:
The 2017 Oscars made history at the Dolby Theatre Sunday night, handing out several first-timer awards, but the most shocking moment of the night was when Oscar-favorite "La La Land" was mistakenly announced as the best picture winner before the Oscar was rightfully given to the coming-of-age drama "Moonlight."

Shock and chaos spread when producers of "La La Land" were stopped in the middle of their acceptance speeches to be informed that actor, and the announcer of the award, Warren Beatty had incorrectly read "La La Land" as the winner.

In Ghana Trump, not Obama, is the beacon of hope

Make Ghana Great Again.

From the Chicago Sun-Times:
Good riddance Barack Obama. And welcome Donald Trump.

Surprisingly, that’s the view of many people in this western African nation, which is 78 percent Christian and 11 percent Muslim.

"Of course we all supported the first black president of the United States. But along the line, we were disappointed," said the Rev. Dr. John B. Ghartey, general secretary of Ghana's Assemblies of God Church, speaking at a roundtable with religious leaders here in Ghana's capital.

"The expectation was so high. First of all, he's black. Secondly, he professed to be a Christian. There were certain values we expected him to cherish, as a black man, and as a Christian," Ghartey said. "But he did not succeed in representing the Christian community."
Obama's support for gay marriage, lack of noticeable foreign aid to Africa, and stagnating opportunities of blacks in America trouble Ghartey and other Ghanians agree with him.

Many from that nation believe Trump will bring back conservative Christian values to the United States, according to the article.

"I know some Americans are disappointed, but I think Trump will do well. I see Trump as someone who is going to transform America. God is on his side," a Ghanaian broadcaster was overheard saying.

Coleman Young II announces Detroit mayoral run

Abandoned Detroit warehouse
Mike Duggan is doing a fabulous job as Detroit's mayor. Really. Yes, I know he's a Democrat.

The principal undertaker for the Motor City was Coleman Young, Detroit's mayor from 1974-1994. Detroit's spiral downwards can be traced to the 1950s, the 1967 riots hastened the collapse, but Young, a former communist. embalmed what was once a jewel of urban America.

Perhaps his son possesses common sense. Perhaps not. The younger Young sat under a large portrait of his leftist father as he announced his entry in the Detroit mayoral race.

Two more Chiraq thugs charged in murder of 2-year-old

North Lawndale
Here is some rare good news out of Chiraq.

From the Chicago Sun-Times:
Two more men have been charged with the fatal shooting of a 2-year-old boy and his uncle that also left a pregnant woman wounded on Valentine’s Day in the North Lawndale neighborhood.

Bond was denied Friday for Doniel Harris, 19, who faces one count of murder, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office.

On Friday, Jeremy Ellis, 19, was charged with murder and attempted murder, the state’s attorney’s office said. He is expected to appear in bond court Saturday.

Devon Swan, 26, was ordered held without bond last week after he was charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
The trio has also been charged with murder of the boy's uncle, who is believed to have been the intended target in the shootings, and the wounding of the uncle's pregnant girlfriend.

Crooked red-light camera vendor gets okay to be a Chicago vendor

Chicago's Northwest Side
The Chicago Tribune's John Kass is right. Crime does pay in Chicago.

From WGN-TV:
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's administration says a red-light camera company whose former chief executive pleaded guilty to a federal bribery charge is once again eligible to pursue city contracts.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the update follows a four-year suspension for Redflex Traffic Systems Inc. The designation of Phoenix-based Redflex as a "responsible vendor" comes after the company recently agreed to pay $20 million to settle a lawsuit with the city.

Emanuel's chief procurement officer sent the company a letter dated Tuesday announcing that its suspension from city contracts is over, citing in part the company's acceptance of responsibility for wrongdoing.

Redflex was accused of fraud when it contracted in 2003 to run Chicago’s red-light camera enforcement program.
Yes, they were accused and more.

From CBS Chicago last year:
The company's cooperation included prosecution of former CEO Karen Finley, who was sentenced in November to 30 months in prison after pleading guilty in 2015 to conspiracy to commit federal program bribery. Former City Hall insider John Bills was sentenced to 10 years in prison earlier this year.

Bills helped Redflex cheat its way to $131 million in red-light camera contracts between 2002 and 2011, the Chicago Sun-Times has previously reported. In return, prosecutors say Bills took $680,000 in bribes. That included $560,000 in kickbacks passed to Bills by Martin O'Malley, the elderly, recovering alcoholic Finley agreed to hire in late 2003 though he seemed far from qualified, or even “computer savvy.” O’Malley was sentenced to six months in prison.

ILL-inois: Ex-con Jesse Jr collecting over $100k annually from feds

Liberals have no shame. Here's a particularly vile one, of the Chicago, Illinois variety.

Taxpayers paid Junior's congressional salary, for his stay in federal prison, and now they pay him to do nothing.

From the Chicago Tribune:
Records from former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.'s divorce case show how he has been able to collect hefty benefit checks from the federal government after serving time in prison for looting hundreds of thousands of dollars from his campaign fund.

Jackson, 51, receives about $138,400 a year — more than he made as a freshman congressman in 1995. Most of that — about $100,000 — is workers' compensation and tax-free, according to Chicago attorney Barry Schatz, who is representing Jackson in his divorce proceeding.

The rest of Jackson's benefits are Social Security Disability Insurance payments, some of which may be taxable, Schatz said.

The payments flow to Jackson because he has bipolar disorder and depression — the issues that led to an extended leave from Congress in 2012 — and those conditions have been exacerbated by a "very difficult, contentious divorce" from former Chicago Ald. Sandi Jackson, Schatz said.

Chiraq: 7 killed in deadliest day of year

Altgeld Gardens last summer
The unseasonably warm weather finally brought a sadly predictable result--a very deadly day. On Wednesday seven people were shot to death and an additional six were wounded. One of the fatalities took place at the Altgeld Gardens housing project on the Far South Side--just one block from the site of a Monday deadly shooting there.

There was also a double murder in Chatham on the South Side, one of the victims was a pregnant woman. Three other murders occurred on the South Side, one each in Brainerd, Bronzeville, Morgan Park,

In Little Village on the Southwest Side a 60-year-old was killed after being shot three times.

Amazingly, there were no fatalities on the West Side, but two men were wounded in Austin.

Bad ideas: Competing plans to name Illinois expressways after Obama

Near Rock Island, Illinois
As I've noted many times before the US Postal Service does few things well but it has one stupendously correct policy. It waits for a person, with the exception of a US president, to be dead ten years before being honored on a postage stamp. And presidents have to be dead to be seen on a stamp. The reasoning is quite sound. While time heals all wounds, it also exposes all heels. A creep or a crook often isn't exposed until time has sorted out the details--and death loosens the lips of the survivors.

Right now, as I predicted, there is a movement to name an expressway in Illinois after Dear Leader, better known as former president Barack Obama. Actually, I am wrong--there are two movements.

One Chicago Democrat wants to name the portion of Interstate 55 that is southwest of Interstate 294--the rest of it is already named for another Democrat, two-time presidential loser Adlai Stevenson--after Obama. The other one wants to rename that other road, I-294--currently it is called the Tri-State Tollway--after Dear Leader.

Bad ideas.

Thank God Illinois has two Republican expressways--the Reagan and the Eisenhower. Those two men are among America's greatest presidents.

Meanwhile President Donald Trump is quickly erasing the Obama legacy.

Good.

On the other hand, both interstates can be used to exit Illinois, leaving high crime rates, out-of-control taxes, and unfunded government worker pensions in the rearview mirror.Maybe I should reconsider.

Riots in immigrant neighborhood in Sweden

Two days after the so-called elite media tore into Donald Trump over a "Swedish terrorism" there were riots in a predominantly immigrant suburb in Sweden.

From CNBC:
Spokesman Lars Bystrom said Tuesday that unidentified people, including some wearing masks, threw rocks at police, set cars on fire and looted shops in Rinkeby. One officer was slightly injured when hit by a rock. No arrests were made.

Bystrom says one officer fired his gun, not as a warning shot but because he was "in a situation that demanded he used his firearm."

Chiraq: 5 dead and at least 32 wounded over Presidents' Day weekend

Altgeld Gardens
As Chicago was blessed with record-breaking warm weather over Presidents' Day weekend, I expected an even worse toll of violence. Over the long weekend Fox Chicago reports that five people were murdered and at least 32 others were wounded. But left out of that tally is the 68-year-old man found dead with a bullet wound in his head in Little Village on the Southwest Side after a SWAT team standoff over a domestic disturbance. Police arrested a 37-year-old man.

Probably not a suicide.

Of Fox Chicago's documented murders, there was one in Austin on the West Side, and one each in Altgeld Gardens, Englewood, Back of the Yards, and Roseland on the South Side.

Last year over Presidents' Day weekend five people were killed in Chiraq and just 19 others were wounded.

The carnage is getting worse.

Presidents' Day: Thousands protested Trump nationwide, hundreds of millions did not

Counter protesters at Chicago Moons

The media, dominated by leftist Donald Trump haters, reported in an excited fashion about the clearly coordinated, unspontaneous, anti-Trump rallies on Presidents' Day.

I particularly enjoy the Washington Post headline: "Thousands of demonstrators across US say 'Not My President.'"

Meanwhile, over 300 million Americans did not.

Donald J. Trump is the 45th president of the United States. Hillary Clinton is not.

Get over it, crybabies. Every seat in the House of Representatives is at stake in next year's elections as are 34 of the seats in the Senate.

Happy Presidents' Day 2017

It's a glorious Presidents' Day for me--we have a new commander-in-chief, Donald J. Trump. But here I will salute our first president, George Washington.

Pictured below is the George Washington-Robert Morris-Haym Salomon Memorial which sits on the southwest corner of Wabash Avenue and Wacker Drive, about 100 yards from the Trump International Hotel and Tower.

It's as if it was pre-ordained.

The father of our country is standing in the center, on the left is Robert Morris, on the right is Haym Salomon. Morris and Salomon, both Pennsylvanians, were the most important financiers for the American Revolution, and sadly, both of them died broke.

Morris is only one of two men, the other was Roger Sherman, who signed the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the US Constitution.

Salomon was Jewish, the inscription at the base of the monument reads, "The Government of the United States, which gives to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance, requires only that they who live under its protection should demean themselves as good citizens, in giving it on all occasions their effectual support. George Washington, 1790."

Happy Presidents' Day!

Thug arrested in Chiraq murders that killed 2-year-old and his uncle

North Lawndale
Last week three children died after getting shot in Chicago. One man, a member of the Black Gangsters, has been charged in one of murders, one of two child killings on the South Side.

A man was arrested in the West Side shooting that murdered a two-year-old boy. His uncle, a documented street gang member who was also slain, is believed to have been the intended target.

From DNA Chicago:
A 26-year-old man has been charged with murder in the triple shooting that killed a two-year-old and his uncle on Valentine's Day in North Lawndale.

Devon Swan, 26, was charged with first degree murder is the shooting that killed 2-year-old Lavontay White Jr. and his uncle Lazaric Collins, 26. A third victim, a 20-year-old woman who is pregnant, was also wounded in the shooting that was recorded live on Facebook.
Police believe Collins was the intended target of the attack which stemmed from a dispute between Collins and a group of individuals, police said.

Swan has a prior history with the Chicago Police Department and has been arrested nine times previously on a variety of offenses including armed robbery, illegal gun charges and narcotics possession.

Grandson of Chicago alderman charged with murder

Carrie Austin and Mayor
Richard M. Daley banners
Kenneth Austin, the grandson of Ald. Carrie M. Austin (34th), has been charged with murder in Kentucky.

The creep's grandfather, Lemuel Austin, was alderman of the 34th Ward until his death--his widow, Carrie, succeeded him.

From the Chicago Tribune:
On Thursday, Carrie Austin, chairwoman of the City Council's Budget Committee, was sketchy on the details but confirmed to the Tribune her grandson was arrested last week. She said her son, Kenneth's father, told her the grandson was wanted for questioning in the Kentucky slaying.

"As far as I know right now, they're just trying to get an attorney, so we can get some definitive information," said the alderman, whose 34th Ward encompasses parts of Chicago's Far South Side. "My grandson ain't killed nobody. People always say, 'You know, he could do that.' No, not this one. ... But that has to be proven."
"My grandson ain't killed nobody." This is the best that the residents of the 34th Ward can come up with?

Cook County court records show that her grandson has also been fighting felony attempted aggravated robbery charges since last year and has a court date on that case in March. According to his arrest report in that case, Kenneth Austin and a co-defendant were arrested by Chicago police in July for trying to rob two people in the South Side's Bridgeport neighborhood. In the arrest report, Austin's occupation was listed as a customer service assistant with the Chicago Transit Authority.

He has caused controversy for his grandmother in the past when it was revealed that she hired him on her staff after he was criminally charged with bilking a retiree out of thousands of dollars. The court case was mentioned in a 2010 Tribune story about aldermen who reward friends and relatives with their taxpayer-funded expense accounts.
Ald. Austin's son, Kenny--could this be Kenneth's dad?--has a checkered past.

From the Chicago Sun-Times in 2015:
The son of one of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's most powerful City Council allies has resigned from his $72,384-a-year city laborer’s job after an internal investigation concluded he crashed a city vehicle while driving on a suspended license, then had a co-worker cover for him to avoid taking a mandatory drug test.

Kenny Austin, son of Budget Committee Chairman Carrie Austin (34th), and co-worker Darryl Milsap were accused of violating numerous city personnel rules by participating in an alleged cover-up unmasked by Inspector General Joe Ferguson.

The crash that damaged a city van and a private vehicle, but caused no injuries, occurred in 2012. But it wasn’t until 2013 that Ferguson’s office got an anonymous tip alleging that the accident report filed with the Chicago Police Department and the damage report to the Department of Streets and Sanitation were fraudulent.

US Rep Danny K Davis: What

I'm just waiting for the announcement of a press conference from the office of the the United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Illinois.

From CBS Chicago:
Cook County Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown requested a $10,000 loan from one of her senior-level employees for her husband’s business, federal prosecutors revealed Friday in a court document that’s part of a case investigating alleged corruption in the clerk’s office.

That and other new details in a prosecution court document filed Friday draw the closest connections yet to Brown and the federal investigation of alleged buying of jobs and promotions within Brown’s office, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

Trump: There are two Chicagos--one safe, one worse

Unlike Barack Obama, who lived in Chicago, President Donald Trump often discusses America's third largest--for now--city.

Near the end of today's tour de force press conference, Trump had this to say about Obama's hometown:
There are two Chicagos, as you know. One Chicago that is incredible, luxurious and safe. There is another Chicago that is worse than almost any of the places in the Middle East that we talk about and that you talk about on the news.
The incredible and luxurious part includes downtown and the Trump Tower. And the safe includes those places and Edison Park, Lincoln Park, and Mount Greenwood.

Three dead children in two days from Chicago violence

Chi-raq Cuisines
Yesterday a two-year-old boy died after being shot on Chicago's West Side--from gunfire that also killed a man and wounded a pregnant woman. On Saturday in separate shootings and 11-year-old girl and a 12-year-old were shot in the head. One of the victims died yesterday, the other today.

President Trump is right to call what is occurring in Chiraq carnage. Three children dead in two days--each of them caught in crossfire that in at least one case is clearly connected to gang violence--and the other two killings probably were too.

Antwan Jones, the accused killer of 11-year-old Takiya Holmes, is a member of the Black Disciples scumbags. A rival gang was allegedly selling marijuana in the apartment building where Holmes lived.

Chiraq man charged with killing 11-year-old

Oddly enough there is no mention in any of the media reports if this thug is a member of a street gang. If we assume gangs are everywhere in inner-city neighborhoods and nothing can be done about it, then I guess most people have given up turning things around in places like Chicago's South Side.

From CBS Chicago:
A 19-year-old man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of 11-year-old Takiya Holmes over the weekend.

Antwan C. Jones was charged early Wednesday morning, according to Chicago Police News Affairs.

Since Saturday, three children have been shot; two are dead and one is on life support.

Takiya was in a van with her mother and other relatives Saturday night, when they stopped at her mother’s workplace in the Parkway Gardens neighborhood, and bullets came flying through the window. A stray bullet struck Takiya in the head.
That same night a 12-year-old was also shot in the head on the South Side. The victim remains in critical condition and the assailant is at large.

Chiraq carnage: Toddler and man shot dead in alley, pregnant woman wounded

North Lawndale
Of my twenty-or-so urban exploration expeditions only once did I think that there was a good possibility that I was about to be shot. And that was last winter in North Lawndale, where the latest Chiraq atrocity occurred.

From ABC Chicago:
A man and a 2-year-old boy were killed and a pregnant woman was injured Tuesday afternoon in a shooting on Chicago's West Side.

The boy was identified as Lavontay White, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. The man's identity was not immediately released.

The three victims were shot while sitting in a car in the 2300-block of South Kenneth Avenue in the North Lawndale neighborhood, police said. They were in an alley between South Kenneth and South Kostner when a man ran up to the car and fired multiple shots into the vehicle.

Police were reviewing a Facebook Live stream that appears to show the shooting and aftermath. In it, a woman and man are seen driving in a car with a toddler visible at times in the back seat. Shots ring out, prompting the woman to run from the car, yelling for help. The police's rundown of the triple shooting closely matches that same narrative.
Most likely this was a street gang related shooting, which, and I hate to keep repeating myself, but gang activity, not guns, are what is behind Chicago's killing spree.

In related news, one of the two pre-teen Chicago girls shot on Saturday on the South Side died today.

(Video) Stammering snowflake Chris Kennedy has no answer on Boss Madigan

Illinois' snowflake Democratic candidate for governor, Chris Kennedy, had a questions posed to him by a Rockford TV station, "We asked him about the longest serving House speaker in the country, Mike Madigan," one anchor said. Another one continued, "We asked Kennedy after more than 28 years as House speaker, was it time for a change in leadership."

A stammering Kennedy put forth a mealy-mouthed answer.

Oh, an Illinois native, the late Nancy Reagan, even makes an appearance here. "Just say no."

Boss Madigan, a Chicago Democrat, is the one-man wrecking crew of Illinois.

(Video) O'Reilly reports on fake news coverage of illegal alien raids

Last night Fox News' Bill O'Reilly reported on "a stunning display of dishonesty from the national press and radical left politicians" in regards to the ICE arrests of nearly 700 illegal aliens, many of whom have felony convictions for crimes such as murder and rape, have been deported before." Those who were not criminals, other than being in the country illegally of course, had ties to these felons.

But leftist congressman Ruben Gallego calls these illegals "maids and moms."

He's a liar.

Flynn resigns as Trumps' national security adviser

Retired Lt. General Michael Flynn, a great patriot, resigned tonight as President Donald J. Trump's national security adviser.

Public pressure forced him out over little stuff. Flynn, before his appointment as national security advisor was approved by the Senate, discussed Russian sanctions, presumably the lifting of some, with the ambassador of Russia. Not a big deal but Flynn shouldn't have done it. Worse, he lied about that communication--and allowed the vice president to repeat that false information.

A bigger deal but one that should have cost Flynn his job.

On the way home from work tonight I listened to Mark Levin talk about treasonous actions by two Democratic senators from Massachusetts. John Kerry, who nearly became president in 2004, gave comfort to an enemy nation, North Vietnam, in his role as a leader of Vietnam Veterans Against the War. "Lurch" of course later served as Barack Obama's second secretary of state.

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy in the early 1980s sent an emissary to Moscow for his plot with Soviet General Secretary Yuri Andropov to push his disarmament schemes, better phrased as plans to weaken America, and to bolster his hoped-for presidential run in 1988.

Chiraq: 5 dead and at least 22 wounded over weekend

Austin, at the Oak Park border
While the numbers aren't as high as many other Chicago weekends, this past one was particularly tragic in Chiraq. Five people were shot to death and at least 22 other were wounded. Of the latter, two of the gunshot victims were South Side girls, one 11, the other 12, who were shot in the head in separate incidents. Both are in critical condition.

Three of the five fatalities, the occurred in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side. According to HeyJackass, Austin, which borders fashionable and smug Oak Park, leads Chicago in both fatal and non-fatal shootings. We here about Englewood but not so-much Austin. That will change soon, I assume.

The other two deadly shootings happened on the South Side, one in Auburn Gresham, the other in South Shore.
