Marathon Pundit: Grant Park's Obama stimulus campaign sign

After accepting the surrender of General Robert E. Lee at Appomattox Court House, one of General Ulysses S. Grant's first thoughts centered upon saving money. He wrote in his memoirs. "I determined to return to Washington at once, with a view of putting a stop to the purchase of supplies and what I deemed other useless outlays of money." And Grant, who endured terrible financial setbacks in the 1850s, knew the value of money. Not so with our current president. His economic stimulus is a failure and now he wants another one.

This Obama stimulus sign is in Chicago's Grant Park, on the corner of Monroe Street and Lake Shore Drive. It's named for Galena, Illinois' most famous son.

If Grant was alive today, I wouldn't blame him if he blew cigar smoke into the faces of the Washington spendthrifts wreaking havoc on the economy.
