Radios In Motion - XTC

The Republican National Convention concluded 85 miles north of me in Milwaukee on Thursday.

It was a big success for the GOP--even some liberals admit it as the Republicans renominated Donald J. Trump.

Back to Milwaukee. Other than country songs about beer, I couldn't think of any songs that mention Milwaukee.

Except for one, "Radios in Motion" from XTC's debut album, White Music. Wisconsin's largest city got a shout out because XTC's frontman and principal songwriter, Andy Partridge, had an aunt who lived there.

This is a different XTC that you might be used to. Lead guitarist Dave Gregory didn't join his fellow Swindononians until the band's third effort, Drums and Wires. Greatness followed.

Prior to Gregory joining, Barry Andrews played, in a rather bizarre fashion, keyboards.

The pre-Gregory XTC had a punk sound, although it's more post-punk. That is, if such a thing existed in 1978.
