Right-to-work works: Subaru supplier moving from Canada to Indiana

Indiana is open for business

Earlier this year Indiana became the nation's 23rd right-to-work state. Well, right-to-work, works.

One of Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc.'s suppliers has decided to move to Richmond [Indiana] from Canada because of Indiana’s new right-to-work law, U.S. Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., said Friday morning when he stopped by the SIA plant.

“Since right-to-work, we’ve seen an increase in activity,” said Pence, who is running for governor against Democrat John Gregg and Libertarian Rupert Boneham.

Right to work legislation prohibits unions and companies from negotiating contracts which require non-members to pay for union representation. Gov. Mitch Daniels signed the measure into law in February.

Tom Easterday, executive vice president of SIA, confirmed the supplier’s decision but said he was not at liberty to give more details because an official announcement has not been made.

Easterling did say that Indiana's right-to-work status was one of the factors that lured his firm to the Hoosier State.

Job-growth of course is much stronger in right-to-work states. Meanwhile, bucking history, the Obama White House continues to shill for Big Labor.

The nationwide unemployment rate is 8.2 percent.
