How bad is Detroit? Postmaster complains about wild dog attacks, random gunfire

Detroit began the year on an up-note--Chrysler's brilliant Super Bowl commercial with Eminem's Lose Yourself repositioned the Motor City as a down-but-don't-count-it-out force to be reckoned with. Then the 2010 Census figures came out--showing Detroit had lost one-quarter of its population in just 10 years. After Charlie Sheen's disastrous kick-off of his one-man show there--which was the fault of Sheen--the former Two and a Half Men star peppered his next gigs with slaps at Detroit.

Now the Detroit News is reporting that the city's postmaster complained to Mayor Dave Bing about the "perilous hazards caused by numerous unlicensed dogs running loose in Detroit." And random gunfire. There were 59 canine attacks on mail carries last year--just 10 in New York and 74 in Los Angeles. Detroit, as we know, has a much smaller population than the other two.
