Monica Conyers begins prison sentence this morning

Monica Conyers, the former president pro tempore of the Detroit City Council, begins her 37-month prison sentence this morning. Last year she pleaded guilty in federal court for here role a bribery scandal.

Conyers is the wife of Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, which oversees federal prisons. He makes $170,000 annually, but Monica was declared indigent--so the federal government paid for his wife's appeal of her guilty plea. Yeah, I know it's strange.
