AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka States EFCA Will Pass In "First Quarter Of 2010":
Trumka: "I think you'll see the Employee Free Choice Act pass in the first quarter of 2010." (Brian Beutler, "Trumka Predicts EFCA Passage In First Quarter Of 2010," Talking Points Memo, 1/11/10)
But this Hill story appeared in my e-mail box yesterday afternoon:
"Battle-Weary House Dems Eye Short Weeks, Easy Votes Ahead Of Election":
"House leaders are preparing a schedule of short weeks and relatively easy votes over the next seven weeks as they aim for a smooth entry to election season. If December marked the point at which House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) shifted mentally into 'campaign mode,' April marks the point at which she and other House leaders are finally beginning to implement a campaign-first legislative ground game. 'They'll be no more tough votes,' a Democratic leadership aide said of the April and May legislative work period. House leaders have scheduled a number of four-day weeks and relatively easy agenda items in order to give their members plenty of room to maneuver for their upcoming races." (Jared Allen, "Battle-Weary House Dems Eye Short Weeks, Easy Votes Ahead Of Election," The Hill, 4/11/10)I guess that includes EFCA, which includes the odious "card check" provision, which will do away with secret-ballot elections when workers decide to join a union, and replace it with free-to-peek-petition drives--which will greatly increase the opportunities of worker intimidation by union thugs.
