The Cook County Board of Commissioners voted 12-5 to repeal half of the hated "corruption tax," which stuck Chicagoans and suburban Cook residents (such as myself) with the nation's highest sales tax. This is the third time that the board has voted to scale back the tax, but this one will probably stick. Governor Pat Quinn signed into law a new law that lowers the threshold for the county to override a veto from 80 percent to 60 percent.
That takes care of just half of the 1 percent corruption tax. Commissioners may vote later today to dump the rest of it.
