Cap-and-trade Tea Party at Rep. Mark Kirk's office

Rep. Mark Kirk (R-IL) is one of the eight "cap-and-tr8ters" who crossed the line and voted for the Waxman-Markey Bill, generally known as cap-and-trade, but in fact is a national energy tax.

Today at Noon a Tea Party protest took place at Kirk's district office in Northbrook. It was a floating crowd--some came during their lunch hour--but the peak attendance was thirty--a huge number considering the event was announced just yesterday afternoon and received no mainstream media coverage that I know of.

Everyone I spoke with, with the exception of myself Anne Leary of Backyard Conservative, lived in Kirk's Chicago North Shore district, and Leary and I live within a mile of Kirk's corner of the state.

After a few minutes outside waving signs on Skokie Bouleverd, Leary and I, accompanied by couple of other protesters, took an elevator up to Kirk's office. A polite staffer named Eric met with us for twenty minutes--we all expressed feelings, negative ones, about Kirk's vote. Most of the conversation centered around the hassles that Waxman-Markey will add to selling a home--which is already an ordeal. Are you ready for an energy audit before placing your home on the market?

Are you looking to buy a home? The energy audit and other costs will make that house more expensive.

While we were in Kirk's office--the phone rang...and rang...and rang. A few calls were about a Kirk-sponsored job fair taking place today in Palatine--that's where the Congressman is spending today--but most of the calls must have been about Kirk's cap-and-trade "Yes" vote.

"I'll let the Congressman know" was the reception's curt reply to each one of those calls.

And North Shore residents will continue to let Kirk know.

Three hours later...I'm sure the phone is still ringing.

Tuesday at Noon there will be another Tea Party protest at the Schaumburg office of Rep. Melissa Bean, who claims to be a Blue Dog Democrat. Turnout should be bigger at this one--there's been more time to get the word out, and many more people work in that area. Bean's office is at 1701 E. Woodfield Road, Suite 200.

What the heck is in the water in that state???

Good for you, Anne and the rest of the patriots to let Mark Kirk know he does not speak for you!

Kirk believes the people of Illinois want what Obama wants. Since he likes to run for the Senate, he believes he'll have a better chance kissing up to the president. Of course, those who want to do the president's bidding would vote Democrat. Poor Kirk, there goes his hope of promotion.

This is briliant! No doubt the fact that 30 people showed up is going to sway his mind, especially since you shared your feelings with a staffer. Now, certainly, some people might say that it would have been much more effective if you'd gone to where he actually was and tried to ask him valid, logical questions designed to make him look bad and then uploaded that to Youtube. But, for some unknown reason, that's wrong. Instead, let's all send him tea bags. That'll change his mind!

I am disgusted I voted for this weasel. Does he think sucking up to the North Shore liberals gets him to the senate? I don't think so!

My freshman Democratic Rep, Mr. Kratovil 1st District MD is getting a similar treatment from me. I picketed his Bel Air office for 5 hours yesterday and will today and tomorrow until the July 2nd date to change his vote under House rules expires.

I sent him a respectful but strongly-worded fax [202-225-0837] over the weekend.

So who is the honorable Republican that will primary this loser out of office.

I'll well be first to send him some monies.

I only wish the protesters had taken video like these as reported at RedState.com when a few folks got together to attend a “town hall” meeting with their Debtocrat Party Rep. Tim Bishop in New York. We should be duplicating this kind of welcome for every congress-critter when they come back to their district for a “town hall” meeting. Hand written signs, chants, hard questions and then video straight to YouTube. Also, we need to create a “[Name of Congress-critter]Watch” type web site/blog that tracks what each of them are doing. (I hope someone already IS doing this.) These things are on my “to do” list and I’ll be meeting with some fellow precinct committeemen tonight to discuss them.

Here’s another post at Redstate.com that explains how the protest came about.

If you click on the last embedded link in the article (the embedding of the videos didn’t work very well), you can watch Part 2 of the video.

Checklist for protests:

Signs.
Bullhorns.
Cell phones.
Cameras.
Digital video recorders (I use a Flip Video) for fast upload to YouTube.
Pens and notebooks.

Beware the mainstream media types. They will try to pull a “Roesgen” on you. (Remember CNN’s Susan Roesgen in Chicago at the April 15 Tea Party? Those Tea Partiers turned the tables on her by taping HER and then getting it onto YouTube pronto. Go here to watch more:

Be ready with your digital video recorder. Record THEM recording you.

Thank you.

American first, conservative second and Republican by necessity.

Thursday the district offices of the two senators in DE and their only Rep. were picketed over their support for ObamaCare and Cap and Trade.

Great article. I think Cap and Trade would be a disaster. I gave you blog a follow.
