Super Tuesday sneak attack: Cook County may add $40 vehicle tax

Just as Barack Obama chose a busy news day, last Tuesday, the day of the Florida Primary, to return some more Tony Rezko tied campaign contributions, a couple of members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners chose Super Tuesday to announce their latest tax-hike proposal--$40 vehicle stickers. Free Chicago Tribune registration may be required to access the story.

Last year the board tried to triple the sales tax in Cook County, which would've given the residents of the country's second most populous county the highest sales tax in the nation. Fortunately, Republican commissioners and a few Democratic crossovers prevented that from happening. Then they tried a big increase in the telephone line tax. That went nowhere. Thankfully.

Cook County government, and I'm leaving the State's Attorney's office out of this discussion, is notoriously ineffecient it's drowning in graft. The rest of the state isn't much better. Citizens and businesses pay for this mess, something an article published by the Heartland Institute calls a corruption tax.

Hey, isn't Barack Obama from Illinois?

Anyway, people of Cook County, speak up, and speak out against this latest, and sneaky, tax hike.

And how many times do I have to say this--to balance the Cook County budget, first cut, slash, then burn.

Feel free to send Cook County Commissioners a message. Again.
