Yes, it's a playoff football Sunday, but the score I referred to in the headline is in regards to the state of Illinois' most powerful public-sector unions, SEIU and AFSCME.
Records at the Illinois State Board of Elections site go back to 1995. Since then, SEIU contributed $22 million to a multitude of political campaigns. There are 4,148 contributions, which of course include cash, but also figuring in are in-kind donations such as volunteers, postage, and phone bank time. Yes, there were a few Republican beneficiaries, but Illinois Democrats raked in most of the largess.
AFSCME is a piker compared to SEIU. Its 3,219 contributions add up to $12 million.
Ok...fine. What about conservative groups? A search of "NRA" and "National Rifle Association" on the ISBE site finds only 207 contributions--which total $174,000.
I typed "Illinois Chamber" into the ISBE search box, I found 601 contributions--$1.5 million.
People of Illinois--this is your government at work.
Or should I say ILLinois?
