Tony Rezko's Obama stimulus "campaign sign"

Barack Obama's ascension to the presidency arguably began not while he was a community organizer on Chicago's South Side, nor while he was voting "present" in Springfield, but on an evening seven summers ago in the wealthy suburb of Wilmette--at the mansion of political fixer Tony Rezko. The Chosen One was trailing badly in the polls and in contributions in 2003, but Rezko got him cash--and credibility. You know the rest of the story.

So it's fitting that Wilmette enjoys the largesse of Obama's 2012 reelection campaign, better known as his economic stimulus boondoggle. You can find this sign on Green Bay Road.

Onetime Rezko cronies Joseph Aramanda and Ali Ata testified earlier this week about the crooked machinations of Obama's first political sponsor at the Rod Blagojevich corruption trial.

The mansion, which Rezko lost to foreclosure last year, is just two blocks from Green Bay Road. What goes around comes around.
