Although the United States didn't declare war against the Central Powers until three years after the fighting began, this year marks the centennial of the start of the Great War, later known as World War I.
In a photograph taken earlier this month, below is Morton Grove's Doughboy Monument, which honors the men of the village who fought in what many believed was the "war to end all wars."
Remember the men and women who defended our country on Memorial Day.
