While economists are still digesting the grim December unemployment numbers, today's a perfect time to remind you that while President Obama and his daughters returned to Washington from a taxpayer-paid 17-day Hawaiian vacation, the first Lady remained in Hawaii. She's still there, partying with Oprah Winfrey while Secret Service agents keep an eye out for her.
Eventually Michelle will return to Washington--not on a commercial airline but on a taxpayer-owned jet. The president called it a birthday present, but it's one that will cost taxpayers at least a couple of hundred thousands of dollars.
In 2008, then candidate Obama promised to go line-by-line through the federal budget to save money.
I know one way to begin fulfilling that promise--end separate vacations for Barack and Michelle.
And finally, while Michelle was hanging out in Hawaii, her hometown of Chicago was hit by record cold.
