Artist conception of Reagan statue |
Our 40th president was born in an apartment above a bakery in the tiny northwestern Illinois village on February 6, 1911.
The Reagan family moved around northern Illinois before settling in nearby Dixon in 1920. But before that move, the Reagans returned to Tampico. The statue shows a young "Dutch" from his second Tampico stay standing on top of a Civil War cannon--Reagan and his brother Neil enjoyed playing on it.
The cannon was later melted down for a World War II metal drive.
The dedication ceremony beings at 1:30pm--after which refreshments will be served across the street at the Tampico Historical Society.
