Cellini sentenced to year in prison; "Honest Abe" prez library now sullied by two jailbirds

ALPLM cornerstone
Longtime downstate power broker William Cellini was sentenced to a year and a day in federal court today. Nominally a Republican, the multi-millionaire who "turned state government into a cottage industry" was sentenced to one year and a day for taking part in the Rod Blagojevich scandals.

Cellini's wife, Julie, was the driving force behind building of the state-owned Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield. She serves on the board of the library's foundation.

Inside the museum is the Ask Mr. Lincoln Presented by Julie and Bill Cellini exhibit.

As you can see in the photograph that I took when I visited the library five years ago, carved into cornerstone there is this: Dedicated 2002--George H. Ryan, Governor.

Poor Honest Abe: First he gets shot, then his name is dragged into 21st century Illinois corruption.

"The Land of Lincoln" can't even do Lincoln right.
