Big Labor has benefited nicely from self-serving contracts at American Airlines, as I've written previously. Those union agreements helped drive American Airlines into bankruptcy. The Communications Workers of America wants American--once the nation's most profitable airline--to merge with struggling US Air. Why? To preserve those collective bargaining agreements that 'vampired' American Airlines.
