Joe Walsh comments on the failure of the super committee

8th Cong. Dist.
Rep. Joe Walsh, a staunch conservative, was an opponent of the super committee idea--the northwest suburban Chicago Republican voted against it, twice, earlier this year.

From a Walsh press release:
Rep. Walsh Comments on the Failure of the Super Committee to Reach an Agreement

WASHINGTON- Congressman Joe Walsh (IL-8) released the following statement regarding the Joint Committee on Deficit Reduction and their failure to reach an agreement. The Joint Committee on Deficit Reduction (often referred to as the "super committee") was created by the Budget Control Act of 2011. Rep. Walsh twice voted against this legislation that raised the debt ceiling limit and created the "super committee," which under this legislation, was required to approve a plan by November 23 that cut the federal deficit by at least $1.2 trillion.

Walsh stated:
The entire concept of a super committee has proven to be a disaster and complete waste of time. I, along with twenty-one other Republicans, voted against every single attempt to form the now failed super committee.

The only way to put our country back on track is to stay focused on trying to cut spending, pass a balanced budget amendment, and get government out of the way for our small businesses. The American people elected us get our fiscal house in order and again President Obama and Congressional leadership has failed.

Once again, whether it is forming this super committee or failing to pass a balanced budget amendment, it remains clear that President Obama and his liberal allies are more concerned with raising taxes to feed their spending appetite than actually finding a solution to this disaster. It is an embarrassment that we cannot make the 1.2 trillion dollars in cuts that are necessary to get our fiscal house back on track. How will we ever be serious about reform?

I want to stop kicking the can down the road and find real solutions to these problems. That is why the first bill I introduced in Congress was a Balanced Budget Amendment, and is exactly why I was a strong supporter of the Republican Study Committee's plan to balance the budget in ten years. The American people elected us to fix the problem, and I will continue to fight to find a solution.
