The event took place at Battell Park's bandshell adjacent to the St. Joseph River.
On the upper-right is Mishawaka's Civil War monument, which was built in 1884.
The bandshell was dedicated on Memorial Day in 1928. That's Diana Nagy on on the lower-right in front of the bandshell. She sang "Where Freedom Flies."
during celebration.The plaque reads:
Dedicated to those of Mishawaka, Indiana who offered their lives in humanity's defense in the wars of the nation and in memory of those who gave their last full measure of devotion. May 30, 1928.At the base of the Civil War monument is this engraving:
Sleep on ye noble patriot braves, wherever lie your honored graves; a nation free and proud and great, your memories perpetuate.

Well I don't have any idea why this Confederate foot soldier statue is still standing. Mishawaka Mayor Dave Wood needs to do something about this. Ship it to a museum. Whatever it takes to get this disgusting statue out of my city.
