In a just-before-Christmas sneak attack, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced a "wild lands" policy, which would prevent drilling for oil and natural gas on millions of acres of federally-owned land in the West. But the budget deal reached last week could tame these wild lands by not funding Salazar's scheme.
The Senate will vote on the budget deal today, which I believe is flawed, but this part of it is good news for hard-pressed consumers. Yes, this will not effect the price of oil next month or next year, but we need to think long-term in regards to drilling here.
