And in what Florida Rep. John Mica, Republican chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, is calling "an Obama union payoff," 40,000 airport screeners are now members of an Obama-favored class.
From a Workforce Fairness Institute press release:
Washington, D.C. (February 4, 2011) – The Workforce Fairness Institute (WFI) today responded to news reports that Transportation Security Administration (TSA) airport screeners were granted collective bargaining rights:The unionization news was released yesterday afternoon, a Friday. Controversial announcements typically get released by the Obama administration on Friday afternoons--they are aware that fewer Americans pay attention to the news on weekends. Tomorrow's Super Bowl further obscures this story.
"Another day and another gift to Big Labor from the Obama Administration. Today's decision raises serious questions whether unionized airport screeners will be able to respond as quickly as possible to ensure the safety of Americans who are traveling," said Katie Gage, executive director of the Workforce Fairness Institute (WFI). "Common sense dictates that we should not give union bosses veto authority over our national security, yet it appears that’s exactly what President Obama has done. Big Labor will stop at nothing to increase the ranks of dues paying members and this White House is more than happy to accommodate, regardless of the consequences."
This is leadership Obama-style.
Democrats have been trying to unionize TSA screeners since 2002.
