Trial lawyers to Obama: No tort reform

The John Edwards wing of the Democratic Party (Yes, I know it's a cheap shot), trial lawyers, is telling Barack Obama that he should avoid tort reform as the president tries to construct a workable bill out of the ObamaCare wreckage.

Linda Lipsen, vice president for public affairs at the American Association for Justice, told The Hill, "The last thing Congress should be doing is eliminating people's rights when the real issue is safety in hospitals."

When the president was hawking ObamaCare last summer, one of his complaints about our current medical system--the best in the world, by the way, was that too many doctors were practicing "defensive medicine," ordering possibly unneeded tests because of lawsuit fears. Somehow Obama's plan for government-run health care would eliminate this problem--without instituting tort reform.

About that trade group, the American Association for Justice. It used to be called the American Trial Lawyers Association. Even trial lawyers know they have a tawdry name.

Have any of these anti-tort reform folks spoken to a live physician? If the system is fair and is working well, then why are 99% of physicians hostile to it? Doesn't this suggest that a change is needed? See www.MDWhistleblower.blogspot.com under Legal Quality.

We've had the version of "reform" that physicians/insurers and tort reformers want for 30 years. There's no evidence that it's ever done anything other than save insurers any money. Hasn't reduced the cost of healthcare, health insurance, liability coverage, or anything else.

Why would this time be different?

What reform are you referring to that's been in place? Do we live in the same country?
