Pat Brady, the chairman of the Illinois Republican Party, held a conference call this morning about the victory of Scott Brown in yesterday's Massachusetts special election.
When asked if the state party can "ride the wave" of yesterday's Bay State GOP win, Brady replied that "We can't just be the party of opposition." He added, "That what makes better governor candidates. And with Mark Kirk (a candidate for US Senate)-- they're talking big ideas." Brady continued, "And I think if we stay with ideas, we'll carry the momentum."
In what could be a prelude to the general election campaign, Brady lauded the mudslinging between the Democratic gubernatorial and Senate candidates, declaring "They're making great points." Continuing, Brady said, "Dan Hynes (a contender for governor) and David Hoffman (a Senate candidate) have done a great service to the Republican Party."
A Republican Senate win prompted this morning's call, so it's important to end with Illinois' US Senate contest: "David Hoffman," Brady stated, "has pointed out many of Alexi's defiencies as a candidate."
Alexi Giannoulias is the frontrunner among the Democratic candidates for the Senate.
My view? 2010 will be a great year for the Illinois Republican Party.
