Blogging from Cancun, Mexico.
Yesterday I posted a picture of a typical natural Cancun beach. And what is behind beyond that beach?
Mangrove swamps. Cancun didn't exist until forty years ago, the Mexican government, in one of its few wise moves ever, came up with the idea to create a resort community on the Yucatan Peninsula.
And much of this part of the Yucatan looks like the photograph on the right. If you wander away from the beach or the pool, or if you golf, this is what you'll encounter--along with the occasional crocodile. Swimming at the beach is recommended.
Just as with Yoda's home planet in "The Empire Strikes Back,"
these wetlands are teeming with life.
