Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, a Republican, has suggested merging several state universities, which would cut the number of public colleges in his state from eight to five.
No campuses would close, but presumably some administrators would lose their jobs.
Since the cost of a college education keeps skyrocketing--faster than the rate of inflation, this is an idea other states should explore. Just the threat of it might force some imperious educrats to tighten their belts.
