Just two days after speaking at Skokie's North Shore Tea Party, State Sen. Matt Murphy (R-Palatine) announced he's running for governor. Fellow state Senator Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) and DuPage County businessman Adam Andrzejewski have already declared they are candidates. Others Republicans considering a run are three other DuPage County public officials: State's Attorney Joe Birkett, County Board President Robert Schillerstrom, and State Sen. Kirk Dilliard, who is best known for appearing in a Barack Obama campaign ad.
DuPage County, which has over 900,000 residents, is just west of Chicago and about 25 percent of GOP primary votes typically comes from this collar county.
WLS-AM personality Dan Proft, who also spoke at the North Shore Tea Party, is considering throwing his hat into the GOP ring.
In his Tea Party speech, Murphy reminded attendees that no Republican voted for the currently stalled state income tax hike bill. Even more so than usual, look for taxes to be a hot button issue in 2010 in the Land of Lincoln.
Governor Patrick Quinn, a Democrat, wants to increase the state income tax by 50 percent.

I attended the North Shore Tea Party, and I heard State Sen. Murphy give a great speech. If he planned on running for any office, in 2010, he should have mentioned his campaign, during that speech.
