The U.S. military says the No. 2 leader of al-Qaida in Iraq has been killed during an operation in the northern city of Mosul.
The military has identified the insurgent leader as a Moroccan known as Abu Qaswarah or Abu Sara.
Wednesday's statement says he became the senior al-Qaida in Iraq emir of northern Iraq in June 2007 and had ties to senior al-Qaida leaders in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
It also says ''he was al-Qaida in Iraq's second-in-command'' behind Abu Ayyub al-Masri, who also is known as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir.
Since early 2007, Barack Obama has favored a 16-month withdrawal from Iraq. Which means had Obama prevailed, we would have no troops in Iraq now--and not only would have "the surge" not happened--it would not have succeeded.
And we would have no troops in Iraq now.
While on The O'Reilly Factor last month, Obama admitted the surge--which John McCain supported before President Bush did--has worked.

American soldiers killed the alleged No. 2 leader of al-Qaida in Iraq, a Moroccan who trained in Afghanistan, recruited foreign fighters and ran operations in northern Iraq where Sunni insurgents remain a potent threat, the U.S. military said Wednesday.
The man, who the military said was known as Abu Qaswarah, died Oct. 5 during a raid on a building in the northern city of Mosul that served as a major "command and control location" for the region. Four other insurgents were killed in the operation, the U.S. said.
