Happy Birthday, President Lincoln! And it's not just any birthday for our 16th president, Lincoln. February 12, 2008 is the 199th anniversary of the birth of the Great Emancipator. He was born in a small cabin with a dirt floor near Hodgenville, Kentucky. A replica of the structure is inside the Romanesque building. That's Little Marathon Pundit and I climbing the steps there two years ago.
But today the weather is far from ideal, in fact, the kicoff celebration, which was to have included a visit by First Lady Laura Bush, was cancelled due to the ice storm that passed through Kentucky.
On the plus side, the bicentennial lasts two years.
The Lexington Herald Leader has a special section honoring the event.
