I've gotten through about sixty pages of it. If you're reading tastes consist of prose dominated by "Be nice to people" sprinkled with healthy doses of liberalism, then this book is for you.
However, I don't usually read stuff like that, and I'm finding Obama's writing style as flat as a glass of champagne poured on the last New Year's Eve.
On page 45, Obama sneaks in a jab at a favorite target of his fellow liberals. Speaking of "Ordinary people," Illinois' junior senator writes:
There's the middle-aged feminist who still mourns her abortion, and the Christian woman who paid for her teenager's abortion, and the millions of waitresses and temp secretaries and nurse's assistants and Wal-Mart associates (emphasis mine) who hold their breath every single month in the hope that they'll have enough money to support the children they did bring into the world.
Of course, as I noted last month, Obama's wife Michelle serves on the board of directors of TreeHouse Inc., whose biggest customer is, you guessed it, Wal-Mart.
