Common cinquefoil

Common cinquefoils are one of the first wildflowers to be seen each spring. There are still some to be found in Morton Grove's Linne Woods. A member of the rose family, their range is the eastern half of the United States. As with many spring wildflowers, they appear in groups. Cinquefoils thrive in all types of soil and habitats, but near my home they prefer woodlands near the North Branch of the Chicago River. This flower is often confused with Indian strawberries.
