Man shot in groin in Detroit over bag of potato chips
Fortunately I did not encounter such violent pettiness when I was in Detroit this summer. And to think I was about two blocks away from where this poor fellow was shot.

From the Detroit News:
Police are investigating a Tuesday night shooting after a man reportedly refused to give up his bag of potato chips. The victim is under care at a hospital and he's in stable condition.
The shooting at 9:30 p.m. happened near Eight Mile and Dequindre, according to police.
A 59-year-old man told police that he was walking in the 20300 block of Conant when a man approached and snatched his chips from his hand. The victim reportedly told the suspect "Yo, man, give me back my chips" and grabbed them back. The man then pulled out a handgun and shot the victim in the groin, police said.

Pensions: Rahm to propose biggest Chicago property tax hike in modern history
![]() |
| Grant Park, Chicago |
From the Chicago Tribune:
Mayor Rahm Emanuel is set to call for the largest property tax increase in modern Chicago history to raise enough money to make a major pension payment for police and firefighters next year, the mayor's City Council floor leader and a City Hall source told the Chicago Tribune late Wednesday.More...
The mayor also plans to push a new garbage collection tax, a new per-ride fee on taxis and ride-hailing services such as Uber and a new tax on electronic cigarettes and smokeless tobacco products.
Pension payments this year total about $478 million. Next year, payments to police and fire pension funds will increase by $538 million [emphasis mine] under current state law, although Emanuel is hoping Gov. Bruce Rauner signs a bill that would allow the city to phase in the higher payments more gradually. Lawmakers approved that bill at the end of May, but have yet to send it to Rauner amid a broader stalemate at the Capitol.
The property tax increase Emanuel is mulling would far exceed what the mayor himself said during the campaign was the largest property tax increase in Chicago history. In 1987, under Mayor Harold Washington, property taxes rose by $79.9 million, which would be $167.8 million in today's dollars after adjusting for inflation. In 2008, under Daley, property taxes rose by $86.5 million, or $96 million in today's dollars.Daley was elected mayor in 1989--he served five-and-a-half terms The 1990s were a boom time for Chicago--for the first time in decades the city's population increased--although I left in 1999, which was a smart move. But Chicago shortchanged its future obligations to pay for what was then the present.
Today's present is terrible for Chicagoans. And the future looks even worse.

(MSNBC video) "Ridiculous" that Clinton claims she didn’t send classified info from her private server
America's foremost congenital liar, Hillary Rotten Clinton, says she never sent classified material from her private email server, a claim that MSNBC's Joe Scarborough calls "ridiculous."

President of the Left: Obama started the War on Cops
![]() |
| Niles, Illinois cop responding to a routine call |
Life is so much easier if you cooperate with cops. Really, it is.
Sure, Obama had his fabled "beer summit" with the police officer and Gates--but two years later his party openly embraced the police-hating Occupy movement. And last week the Democrats formally endorsed the police-hating Black Lives Matter group. Where was Obama's condemnation when that leftist rabble chanted "Pigs in a blanket--fry 'em like bacon" earlier this week?
Three years ago offshoots of the Occupy movement were holding "Fuck the Police" marches.
The White House sent three representatives to the funeral of Michael Brown who charged a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri--the cop used justified force in shooting the violent shoplifter.
Obama has never given a strong show of support for police officers--who, unlike most people, put their lives on the line whenever they report to work. That's because Obama does not govern for the benefit of over 300 million Americans. He's all about placating his leftist base--which is at best suspicious of the police.
But cops protect us from anarchy. Obama either doesn't get it or he doesn't care.
Last week a police officer was murdered while pumping gas. Yesterday a police officer in Obama's adopted home state of Illinois was shot to death while responding to a report of suspicious activity.
Cops lives matter.
There's a war on cops now and it can be traced back to when Obama said a police officer "acted stupidly" when he was simply doing his job.

One-percenter Lindsey Graham criticizes surging Ben Carson
Republican-in-Name-Only Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina is a bottom feeding presidential candidate.
He's a member of the "one-percent," but not in a good way.
Not only he is not a fan of Donald Trump, he's chilly on Ben Carson.

From CNN:
"Ben Carson's a nice guy, I think he fits Iowa much better than Trump," Graham said on CNN's "New Day," when asked why Carson had shot to the front of the pack in a new Iowa poll.Graham's entire career is a mistake.
"But what we'll see over time, as the electorate starts thinking about 'Who do we want to be the next commander-in-chief?'" Graham said. "I don't know what Dr. Carson's done over the last 10 years other than surgery, which is amazing, it's something I couldn't do. But over the last decade I've been going to Iraq and Afghanistan, for over 35 times, learning from my mistakes, Bush's mistakes, Obama's mistakes."
Carson has been polling toward the front of the GOP pack, most recently tying Republican front-runner Donald Trump for 23% among Iowans, in a poll where Graham garnered less than 1%.

Classified emails stored on Hillary's private server now at 213
According to Hillary Clinton, first there were no classified emails stored on the private email server she used while serving as President Obama's secretary of state. Then there were 50.
Yesterday we learned there were over 200.
From ABC News:
Yesterday we learned there were over 200.
From ABC News:
Tonight's publication will bring the total number of emails that had to be upgraded to classified to around 213. The exact number of newly classified emails to be released tonight in redacted form is still being calculated, State Department spokesman Mark Toner said today.
Clinton has long maintained that while she was serving as secretary of state, she never handled any emails on her private server that were marked classified. State Department officials have also noted that the emails were not classified at the time they were sent, but the number of emails that were later deemed classified demonstrates that whether or not they were marked classified, the emails were sensitive in nature.
It is not possible to send a properly marked and classified email through an unclassified State Department account or a private email account, according to multiple senior government officials familiar with handling sensitive materials in the government email system.
Each of the 150 emails newly deemed classified were considered exempt from public release using a specific guideline of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Specifically, the regulation states that anything deemed to contain "classified information for national defense or foreign policy" is exempt from public release.
