Over the long Independence Day weekend in Chicago, the relative midpoint of what Mayor Lori Lightfoot as a "Summer of Joy," eight people were shot to death and at least 63 others were wounded.
While the deadly mass shooting yesterday in north suburban Highland Park understandably dominated the national news, there were two mass shootings in Chicago over the weekend. Four people were wounded in mass shooting Friday night in West Garfield Park and five others were early Monday in Parkway Gardens.
Good news? Well, last year was worse in Chicago, when 19 people were killed and over 100 others wounded.
