Chiraq records 3,000th shooting of 2016, already more than last year

You can expect more stories such as this one, as Chicago's murder rate continues at stratospheric rates. Sometime during the weekend Chiraq recorded its 3,000th shooting. For all of last year there were 2,980. The city passed last year's murder total sometime around Labor Day, as the official homicide totals aren't trustworthy it's hard to say when that really occurred.

Seeing 4,000 shootings is definitely possible in Chiraq, although an early winter might cool tempers enough to prevent that. As for murders, since Chicago has already surpassed 500--which is already more than all of 2015--600 is certainly an achievable total.

As I've remarked several times in this space, Mayor Rahm Emanuel famously as he was Barack Obama's chief-of-staff in waiting in 2008, "You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it's an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before." Well, Emanuel isn't doing much. Sure there's been talk of hiring more police officers but Chicago is essentially broke--Moody's rates its bonds as junk--and no one will say where the money will be found to pay these cops.

Rahm is a failure.
