Detroit Public Schools and Chicago Public Schools face financial abyss

The Chicago Teachers Union is all but calling for a general strike on April 1 which includes members not showing up to their jobs that day. Detroit's unionized teachers have participated in several sick-outs recently. Detroit Public Schools is expected to run out of money on April 8. Chicago Public Schools warned its principals yesterday that it may not have enough money to cover expenses before the end of the school year.

The teachers in both cities are whistling past the graveyard.
