This is the old Michigan Central Railroad bridge. You can just make out the words on the side of the bridge. Michigan Central was part of New York Central railroad, may have been acquired by them. At some point the line was torn out just west of the bridge. NYC became part of the Pennsylvania Railroad- New York Central merger, Pen Central (PC)Railroad. Then PC became part of Conrail. Conrail would back over the bridge from the little yard by Broadway Ave. Conrail was acquired and split up between Norfolk Southern Railroad (NS) and CSX railroad. NS took control of this line. They took out the tracks from the yard to the bridge.
This line was part of what was called the Air Line route. When it was completed, it ran from Detroit, my all the way to Chicago, Il. As far as I know the only remaining rail of the Air Line route is this bridge leading up to and a little way after.
