Yellow coneflowers in a field

One of the most common wildflowers in northern Illinois meadows in midsummer is the yellow coneflower. A member of the aster family, its dropping petals are its distinctive feature.

These were photographed in Iroquois Woods yesterday in Park Ridge.

The yellow beauties dominate here.
