Rep. Derrick Smith (D-Chicago) was indicted on bribery charges in the spring of 2012. But Smith still won that year's Democratic primary and the general election, even though an independent candidate with the support of the Dem Machine was on the ballot that fall and Smith, with great fanfare, was expelled by the General Assembly before that contest.
Somehow the dopey voters in his district managed to find some wisdom for the latest Democratic primary race--Smith lost.
But his problems continue. Smith is still a legislator, but his bribery trial begins today.
