"Dutch" Reagan statue dedicated in Tampico, Illinois

Artist rendering of the Reagan statue
It was a long time coming, but Tampico, Illinois--where Ronald Reagan was born in 1911--finally has its statue of "Dutch." It was dedicated yesterday afternoon.

From KWQC-TV:
"They wanted something to help everyone who visits Tampico to also see the statue on the cannon where Ronald Reagan used to play."

Amanda Boettner says the 8-foot boyhood statue of Ronald Reagan was once a dream--but now a reality to her grandparents, Amy and Lloyd McElhiney of Tampico. They worked at the Reagan Birthplace in Tampico for over 10-years.

"They have dedicated so many years to the Reagan Birthplace, and literally saw it as their baby. They just loved it," she said.

But the couple felt the town needed something more to honor our 40th president.
And now they have it--a bronze statue of Reagan. Sadly, Lloyd McElhiney passed away in 2006.
