The Illinois House of Representatives did something they've done only once before--it expelled a member from its ranks. West Side Chicago Democrat Derrick Smith was indicted on bribery chargers this spring. He still managed to win his March primary--and he remains on the fall ballot. The vote was 100-6 to oust Smith---and in the spirit of former General Assembly member Barack Obama, three legislators voted present. All of the 'nays' and 'presents' were Democrats.
