Illinois corruption update for 7/19/12: Bipartisan edition

This afternoon I have two Illinois corruption stories for you. Yes, this is a bipartisan edition. Stuart Levine, a Chicago North Shore Republican, was sentenced to 5 1/2 years in prison today for money laundering and fraud. While he didn't testify in the trial of Democrat Rod Blagojevich, he did so at other Blago-related trials, most notably Tony Rezko's.

Also today, a state House committee voted 11-1 to expel Rep. Derrick Smith (D-Chicago) from the General Assembly. Smith, who was appointed to his position to to fill a vacancy, won the Democratic Primary for that seat in March--he's on the ballot for the November general election.
