Today's Illinois corruption update is a fun one. Well, not fun for those who were formally indicted today. Former Chicago alderman Ambrosio Medrano and Former Cook County commissioner Joseph Moreno were arrested last month on bribery chargers.
Oh, a huge clarification is in order: Moreno is not to be confused with Alderman Proco "Joe" Moreno of Chicago's First Ward. He's been in the national news in the last few days over the Chick-fil-A gay marriage controversy. The Morenos are not related.
According to the federal indictment against them that was issued this afternoon, the pair accepted kickbacks to sell bandages to Cook County's public hospitals.
Medrano's story is an interesting one. He served a prison term in the 1990s after being convicted for bribery.
Yet he still ended up on Moreno's county payroll.
Both men are Democrats.
As I've stated before, anyone convicted of public corruption should be banned from the public payroll forever.
