Manzarek & Krieger: Peace Frog and Blue Sunday

Blood in the streets in the town of Chicago...

So goes the lyrics of The Doors' "Peace Frog" from 1970. And yes, I saw blood in the streets during the Battle of Michigan and Cermak on Sunday when Black Bloc anarchists foolishly thought they could break a police gauntlet after the anti-NATO march.

Of course I foolishly got to close to the action and I found myself on the bottom of a pile of occupiers.

Although he was not a principal songwriter for The Doors, keyboardist Ray Manzarek's Chicago upbringing and his love of blues music had a profound effect on the band. "Peace Frog" is one of the band's bluesier efforts--and they had a lot of them.

Manzarek now tours with the old band's guitarist, Robbie Kriger in a project called, well, Manzarek & Krieger. They exclusively perform Doors songs. A dispute with their old drumming mate John Densmore prevents use of the Doors name.

Watch this reasonably good camcorder recording of the New Doors performing "Peace Frog" and "Blue Sunday" in 2011.

There's no blood.
