Feckless: Occupy the PGA in Michigan

Grand Mere State Park, near Benton Harbor, MI
The fecklessness of the Occupy movement continues. The Golf Club at Harbor Shores in horribly impoverished Benton Harbor, Michigan is hosting the Senior PGA Tournament this weekend. Because of what seems to me to be a land-swap offends the occupiers--and the non-profit that owns the golf club is just leasing park land that is the point of contention--a group called Occupy the PGA held a protest today.

Jeff Noel, the president of the non-profit that runs the course, sets things straight.

From MLive:
He said Harbor Shores went through all the proper channels to lease the land from the city and that HSCD, a non-profit corporation, is responsible for maintaining the park at a cost of $125,000 per year.

Noel said that as part of the agreement with the city, Harbor Shores' fees can't be any higher than what it takes to cover operating costs.

He said the development, which began nine years ago, improved the park by adding 40 acres of land and eight miles of walking trails and that HSCD also absorbed the cost of removing enough debris and rubble to fill a football field 65 feet high.

"Most of those costs would fall to the local government but the city of Benton Harbor simply couldn't do that," he said. "Those three million square feet square feet sitting there would be going into decay and offer no tax base, no jobs and no attractions of tourism whatsoever.
The occupiers are clueless.
