WFI Statement On NLRB-Released Details Concerning "Quickie" Elections

Washington, D.C. (November 19, 2011) – The Workforce Fairness Institute (WFI) today released the following statement in response to details released by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) concerning tomorrow's vote on "quickie" or "ambush" elections:

"While government bureaucrats at the National Labor Relations Board would try and lead people to believe the changes they are ramming through the process are minor, nothing could be further from the truth. Instead of placing fairness ahead of all else, Obama's so-called 'independent' agency is seeking to once again reward Big Labor bosses at the expense of workers and small businesses," said Fred Wszolek, spokesperson for the Workforce Fairness Institute (WFI). "By limiting free speech and challenges to unqualified voters in advance of an election, and disallowing pre-election issues to be heard until the vote has taken place, the intent is clear: forcibly unionize employees and employers. Today's missive by the NLRB is outrageous and simply reiterates the importance of Congress acting and passing the Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act."

"National Labor Relations Board Chairman Mark Gaston Pearce today released details of his proposal to amend certain election procedures in order to reduce unnecessary litigation in disputed cases. The amendments are drawn from a comprehensive overhaul of the election process proposed this summer through the federal rulemaking process. The chairman's resolution will be considered and put to a vote at a public meeting of the Board set for Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 EST … The amendments [Chairman Pearce] propose[s] would simply address these procedures, by 1) limiting subjects that can be raised in a pre-election hearing to those that are directly relevant to the election, and 2) postponing any election-related appeals to the Board until after the election."
