Rep. Jerry Costello (D-IL), announced today that he will not run for reelection in his Metro East district in southwestern Illinois. Somewhat more moderate than his Democratic colleagues in Congress, he did not face a strong challenge last year. However, 2012 was looking tougher for Costello. Former Belleville Mayor Roger Cook, a Republican, had already declared his intention to run. Jason Plummer, the GOP nominee for lieutenant governor last year, has hinted about running for Costello's seat.
