George Ryan loses in court again; time for Big Jim to step aside

Former Illinois Governor Jim Thompson, a Republican, needs to "take one for the team" and stop representing his former lieutenant governor, convicted felon George H. Ryan. Eight years after "Big Jim," a former US district attorney, left the governor's mansion, Ryan was elected governor.

Loyalty is admirable, as is the peformance of pro bono legal work, but there has to be another lawyer out there who can represent Ryan for free.

Thompson rode with Ryan and his wife, who passed away last month, when the Kankakee pol reported to first prison assignment in Wisconsin four years ago, as helicopters followed...what a horrible image for the Illinois GOP.

And Thompson doesn't seem to have the magic touch. He lost in court today--another Ryan appeal was denied.
