Niles, IL—October 18, 2010: Republican challenger Joel Pollak out-raised Democratic incumbent Jan Schakowsky in the 3rd quarter by a staggering 2-to-1 ratio, according to recently filed Federal Election Commission reports.Driving around the district, I see far more Pollak yard signs than those for Schakowsky.
Pollak's supporters donated $274,384.73 from July 1 through September 30, while Schakowsky's campaign raised only $146,491.00.
"We are thrilled by our strong performance," said Ashley Kain, Pollak's campaign manager. "For a first-time candidate like Joel to out-raise a 12-year incumbent like Schakowsky--let alone to double her numbers--is simply amazing. It is a sign that Schakowsky's support is collapsing, while our campaign is surging."
Kain noted that the Pollak campaign is spending rapidly on television advertising to boost name recognition.
"We have held three fundraisers in the past four days, and we are spending ambitiously to get the word out," she said. "Every penny helps us boost Joel's numbers, and brings us closer to a historic win."
Pollak was grateful for the support he has received from donors in the 9th district and around the country.
"We know we can win here in the 9th district," he said. "A victory here means a victory for job creation, fiscal responsibility, and national security. With the continued help of our donors and volunteers, we will do it!"
