Quick-Shot polls
takes a look at some key Illinois political contests and finds that independent voters are favoring the Republican candidate in each of the races it explores, with one exception, Illinois' 10th Congressional District, which runs from the northern border of Morton Grove to up near the Wisconsin border. Republican Bob Dold is essentially tied with Democrat Dan Seals. That district has been trending Democratic of late, so Dold has some catching up to do. But in the Illinois US Senate race, Republican Mark Kirk leads Democrat Alexi Giannoulias among the indies, and two Democratic House incumbents, Debbie Halvorson (11th) and Bill Foster (14th) trail their Republican opponents, Adam Kinzinger and Randy Hultgren respectively, among this crucial bloc.
It's my belief that most of the undecideds will vote GOP. Newspaper endorsements will add additional momentum, particuarly for Kirk.
And Planet Blago's latest media tour, followed by a second corruption trial this fall, can only help the onetime beleagured Illinois Republican Party.
